This gigantic cedar was named “Jomonsugi” and is the oldest known tree in Japan. Jomonsugi cedar has a dignified atmosphere about it that comes from living a long time. The appearance of Jomonsugi Cedar with its rough texture and many large burrs can only be seen on trees of great age. Also, the harsh Yakushima environment also helped in shaping Jomonsugi Cedar.
