Many tea elds with its fresh green leaves can be seen at the foot of the mountains.  Harvesting tea leaves beginsin mid-March. Please try our tea.Yaku-sugi cedar productsYaku-sugi cedars are made into wooden products by localcraftsmen. These products are very beautiful showing the warmth of Yaku-sugi. The Yaku-sugi products rangefrom a few hundred yen to millions of yen. The aroma of Yaku-sugi is unique and pleasing.“Shochu”Shochu is a Japanese spirit distilled from sweet potatoes. Yakushima has two local shochu brewing companies. Yakushima’s shochu is known throughtout Japan for its taste and quality.“Ponkan” and “Tankan” MikanPonkan and Tankan mikans are the main agricultural products on Yakushima.  The harvest season for Ponkan is from December toJanuary, and for Tankan is from February to March. The mikans are very delicious.Also these mikans are madeinto sweet cakes, cookies, jam and juice. They make very good gifts.Flying fishYakushima is known to have the largest catch of ying sh in Japan. You can see many dierent kinds of ying sh during the year at Anbo shing port. Not only deep-fried yingsh with its wings spreadbut also raw sh “sashimi”,deep-fried minced shpatty “Tsukiage” andlightly sun dried ying sh are very popular with the tourist. MackerelMackerel is also one of the main sh caught in Yakushima. If you are lucky, you can enjoy raw mackerel. Mackerel quickly spoils and only a freshly caught mackerelcan be eaten raw. Another popularmackerel product is “Saba-bushi”. Saba-bushi is traditionally dried mackerel. Smoked Mackerel in a vacuum pack is also another popularproduct as a convenient snack or souvenir.
