Detailed information is on page 21 and 25.On this map walking trails denotes ”mountain trails”, which comes from an old Yakushima term, ‘hodo’, meaning "walking trail". Some walking trails are dicult and dangerous. Always be adequately equipped and prepared for any hiking. (See below)Kuchinoerabujima Island is a gourd-shaped island about 12 km northwest of Yakushima Island. In March 2007 Kuchinoerabujima Island was entirely incorporated into Yakushima National Park. It is a typical volcanic island with a circumference of 48 km. There are two active volcanoes on the island, Mt. Shinda-ke and Mt. Furudake. Many people are fascinated by volcanic landscape and green pastures. The island’s hot springs such as Nishinoyu onsen, Nemachi onsen, and Yumugi onsen are ideal for a relaxing dip. The island is also known for its blessings from the sea. Lobsters, other shellsh and sh are abundant year round.
