Yakushima Town History and Folk Museum is located in Miyanoura, 15 minutes by car (10.4 km) from the airport. It has a mixed exhibition of real objects such as farming implements and a fishing boat for catching flying fish. Also there are many pictures, panels, and models introducing the past life of the islanders. Methods used in cutting down the massive Yakusugi cedar trees and explanations on long line fishing are just some of the things you can see. It is one of the few places where visitors can learn not only about nature but also about the life and history of Yakushima.
