Hananoego Highland Marsh is the southernmost highland marsh in Japan. It is situated in the mountains in the center of Yakushima, at an altitude of 1,640 meters.
Many alpine plants can be seen there. You can also see skeleton Yaku-sugi cedars which are actually living yaku-sugi cedars that have been stripped of bark by the wind. The combination of clear water, alpine plants and moss creates fantastic sceneries. It is about 2 hours from Yodogawa trail entrance, on the way to Mt. Miyanoura and Mt. Kuromi.
