There are about 20 rental car shops in Yakushima. Most of the shops have pick-up service at arrival if you have a reservation. Average small car rental fees are around 5,000 yen per day plus gasoline. Gasoline tanks are full and must be full when returned.
Driving around Yakushima is a popular activity and takes over 2 and a half hours. If you are interested in seeing the sites, you will need a whole day. While driving around Yakushima you may see Yaku-monkeys and Yaku-deers (especially in Seibu-rindo Forest Path).
Motorbikes, scooters and bicycles are also available for rental.
